Understanding BUNYAD ECCE:

‘Bunyad’ is an acronym for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). This approach takes a holistic view of childcare, education, and support for young children, typically ranging from birth to around eight years of age. ECCE programs are meticulously designed to foster children’s development across multiple domains, including cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and moral dimensions. These programs often incorporate activities and curricula tailored to the unique needs and capabilities of young children, ensuring they are well-prepared for future learning and overall well-being.

Exploring the Scope of ‘Bunyad’:

The School Education Department (SED) of the Government of Punjab has set forth key objectives for the Bunyad program under the PHCIP umbrella:

  1. Enhancement of 3,400 classrooms catering to young children across 11 districts in Punjab. SED aims to achieve this by implementing minor repairs and adorning the classrooms with vibrant wall decorations.
  2. Distribution of kits containing educational materials tailored to young children and specialized furniture to 3,400 schools.
  3. Comprehensive training for 3,400 head teachers, 13,600 teachers, 3,400 caregivers, and 3,400 School Council members, focusing on effective teaching methods and child management.
  4. Capacity-building for 1,300 Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) to develop leadership skills and contribute to school improvement.
  5. Establishment of dedicated reading corners in grade 1, 2, and 3 classes, fostering a love for reading and facilitating a seamless transition from early childhood to pre-primary school.
  6. Implementation of a novel monitoring system to track students’ progress and transitions from pre-primary to primary grades.
  7. Training for existing teachers to support children’s smooth transition from early childhood to primary school.
